Gabbii Maihi-Tekai
I grew up playing basketball in NZ from the age of 5 , went on to play for NZ in my teenage years and moved on to coaching u17s NZ team before making my move to Perth and finding the spectres.

I want to be on the committee because I felt like I could help and now the spectres are my family so just want to give back 😊 My vision for Perth Spectres this year is to put more focus on our current members / fund-raising for our club. I want to create avenues for players to be able to play regardless of what hardships they might face. I would love to see the development of our Junior Club and the start of Wheelchair Basketball. Perth Spectres are in a great position to push the boundaries of LGBTQIA+ sport which includes people from all walks of life.

Position Nominated - Sport Leader Elected Unopposed
Brendon Entrekin
In my day job I’m a career public servant and after hours
I’m a basketball tragic and huge Perth Wildcats fan. As well as basketball I keep busy with water polo, Bikram yoga, gym and some swimming – I’m always doing something!
My role on the Spectres committee has been to coordinate the Club’s competition teams, assist with Train and Play sessions and generally oversee anything on the court. I would like to continue with this contribution I’m 5 foot nothing, which might make basketball seem like an unusual choice of sport, but don’t let anything hold you back – basketball is for everyone and once you get involved it can be very addictive!

Position Nominated - Secretary
& Ordinary Committee Member
Jennifer Rozier
I found the Perth Spectres by chance after moving to Perth in 2020, when I was looking for a way to make friends and dust off my basketball skills from high school. I couldn't be more glad that I did, this club has given me friends for life and I would love the opportunity to give something back.

I've been on committees before, so I'm no stranger to the organised chaos that meetings can be. At university I was the treasurer for the humanities society (lol nerd) and the entertainment officer for my college student union (cool kid 😎).
This club has done amazing things and I just want to continue that trend. If I'm voted into the committee, my main goal is to organise some more steady forms of fund raising for the club through events (e.g. quiz nights) and by reaching out to more sponsors. We've grown massively in the last year and I think it's imperative we build a solid foundation to secure our club into the future as a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community.
I can also make maps if that ever becomes relevant.

Position Nominated - Ordinary Committee Member

A lot of people don't realise the importance of sport for mental health, inclusion, health and fitness, morale, etc. So when they sustain a long term injury or decline with a disability, a lot of people firmly believe that their sporting career is over. But the thing is, it doesn't have to be!
I would like to be a Committee Member with a specific view of being a Disability and Accessibility Inclusion Advisor. I would love to be able to help LGBTQ+ people and allies with varying disabilities, short or long term injuries, or additional needs to be able to be included in such an amazing sport.
I have always been a very sport involved person and I have a very long history with Basketball that began as a young child. I have had the privilege of playing all levels of basketball available to me, including state level basketball in an able bodied capacity. I have spent time as a coach, referee and scoreboard operator over this time also. After disability I was able to transfer my skills into wheelchair basketball and have recently had the privilege of playing wheelchair basketball at the AIS in Canberra.
In addition to my own disability, I have also supported people with incredibly high and varying levels of disability as a support worker for 14 years.
I would love to be able to help other people with additional needs to also find their sporting happy place.

Position Nominated - Ordinary Committee Member
Alex Brewer
I have been playing with the Perth Spectres family since November 2021. I joined the club after fair day and was looking to be involved in a club to meet new people and make new friends. I went to my first train and play and the energy of the Spectres was why I signed up then and there to play as new it was what I needed in life. I am also a member and a committee member of the Perth Hornets AFL Club but don’t think that I am fully devoted to their club. I am willing to put in the same contribution to this club too. I am going for a general committee position to help the club in 2023 and my goal is to increase the people who attend our train and plays to regular club events when possible as from my experience the spectres have a strong sense of a family bond and that is something truly special feeling that everyone deserves if they want it. I also would like to see us get Basketball WA involved with the club and both would really benefit for each other. My last statement for you all is we always was and always will be a spectres family no matter where we are in life and that is something truly special.

Position Nominated - Ordinary Committee Member
Tegan Phillips
Tegan (she/they) joined Perth Spectres in late 2021 after nearly a decade away from the game.
She loves the physicality of basketball and is always looking to build on her IQ/strategy knowledge. She now serves as Ultraviolet team captain, and enjoys filling in for Bubble Tea and Rainbow Hoops whenever she can!
Tegan has varied professional experience across politics, real estate, and as a founding director of a not-for-profit organisation. This gives her a solid foundation in legislation and governance, as well as practical experience in event coordination, stakeholder engagement, fundraising, and volunteer management.
Having undertaken studies in marketing and community services (among others), as well as being a qualified mental health first aider, she is passionate about bringing out the best in people
both on and off court.
